Mr. Holtvluwer - Principal

I am so excited to begin my second year as the principal of MHE!

If you are not exactly sure how to say my last name - think “HOLT” and “VELOUR” (like the fabric) and you’ve got it! But most people call me “Mr. H.” and that is totally fine with me.

I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended Hope College (Holland, MI) where I played football, met my wife, and originally graduated with a Communication degree. I worked at the local newspaper straight out of college called The Holland Sentinel before joining the news production team at the NBC station in Grand Rapids. While at WOOD-TV, I decided to follow my dream of becoming a teacher and went back to Hope College to earn my teaching certificate. With teaching jobs few and far between in the West Michigan area, my wife, Jenni, and I sold our house in Michigan and moved to Tampa, Florida where I accepted a 3rd Grade teaching position at Mary Bryant Elementary. I taught at Bryant Elementary for over 6 years in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade classrooms. Mammoth Heights and Bryant Elementary have many of the same characteristics that make them great schools! While teaching, I earned my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. Soon after earning my Master’s degree, I moved within the District to Citrus Park Elementary where I served as the Assistant Principal for three years. From there, I accepted the Principal position at Woodside Elementary back in my hometown area of Holland, Michigan where I served as the building principal for three years.

This school year, my son Luke (5) will begin Kindergarten here at MHE! My wife and I are also the proud parents of Ava (3), and Chase (1).

Feel free to follow me on Twitter (@NickHoltvluwer) and subscribe to our YouTube channel (Mammoth Heights) to learn all about the amazing things that are happening here every day at MHE!

I am so excited to be the assistant principal here at Mammoth Heights Elementary. This school has a reputation of excellence in the community and I am thrilled to be a part of such a dynamic staff. My teaching career began in 1996 in Illinois. I taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and multiage classrooms, and coached middle school & high school volleyball. Prior to my time at MHE, I spent 9 years at Pine Lane Elementary in Parker as a 3rd grade teacher. I earned a BA from Lake Forest College, an MA from National Louis University, and an EdS from the University of Colorado at Denver. My husband, Tim and I have two beautiful children, Maren and Colby. We are very fortunate to call Parker our home.

My Website

Hello! My name is Bekah Crispin and I am thrilled to be spending another year at Mammoth Heights. Since we first opened the school in 2007, it has been a privilege to be a part of this supportive community and dedicated staff. I continue to be amazed by the collaboration and positive energy in our school. My husband Bill and I live here in Parker and keep busy by running after our son, Charlie. You can often find us at the library, up in the mountains, or on one of the many walking/biking paths throughout town. I began my teaching career in 1998 and have taught 2nd grade, 1st grade, GT, and worked as a Reading Specialist for grades 1-5. My Master's degree is in literacy curriculum and instruction and I am passionate about helping children grow to love reading and learning as much as I do. I look forward to getting to know you all better as we continue our great MHE tradition of strong collaboration between students, parents, staff, and the community.
